Blood is the most important and inevitable part of the body. The working of our body depends on how well is the condition of the blood. For good functioning of the blood, our blood should be free from unwanted toxins and impurities. Liver, kidneys and lymphatic vessels tend to carry out the function of cleansing the blood. However sometimes the toxins tend to build up in the blood and the organs may not be able to cope up with them.
The various causes for toxin formation in the blood are wrong diet, constipation, stress and worry, drinking impure water, excessive intake of tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages, sedentary lifestyle and environmental toxins.
Certain foods that can be useful for blood detoxification and purification:
Water: Drink lots of water up to 10 to 12 glasses every day. Water helps in flushing out the toxins and clearing the system. Moreover water also helps in relieving the body from constipation thus improving the bowel movements.
Parsley: Parsley is a natural blood purifier. Parsley leaf is a diuretic which can help in flushing the kidney. It is a blood cleanser that is effective during convalescence.
Garlic: Garlic is a natural blood cleanser and an antibiotic. It removes fat from the blood, thus it normalize blood pressure and reduces cholesterol levels. It cures many problems, such as common cold, cough, sore throat, digestive problems, respiratory infections, beauty and skin related issues like acne, pimples, fungal infections, eczema and insect bites. Peel off the skin of the garlic clove and cut it lengthwise and remove the small center portion or heart of garlic. This will help in reducing the smell that is emitted when we eat garlic.
a) Smash 3 garlic cloves or make paste of raw garlic and consume it with warm water in the morning on an empty stomach. Do this every day for few weeks to purify your blood and to get rid of acidity. It removes toxins from our body.
b) Mix 1 tablespoon of raw garlic paste in carrot juice and add 1 tablespoon of honey or sugar in it, mix well and drink this juice on an empty stomach in the morning for 2 weeks.
c) Add garlic in your regular diet in the form of chutney. Add in your vegetables salad, in fish curry, in sandwiches etc.
Wheat Grass or Wheat Grass juice: Wheat Grass is highly nutritious. It contains natural enzymes and Vitamins like Vitamin A, B, C, E and K, pantothenic acid, minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, protein, amino acids, lecithin and chlorophyll. It is an effective blood cleanser and can improve the oxygen supply to the circulatory system. It can also detoxify the liver and decrease the carcinogens in foods and environment.
Lemon: Lemon has citric acid and alkaline properties, citric acid removes harmful toxin from our body and many viruses, toxins cannot live in alkaline environment. Lemon is very beneficial in boosting our immune power and it removes harmful materials from our bloodstream.
a) Mix 3 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice with 2 tablespoon of honey in glass of warm water. Drink this water every morning on the empty stomach. Drink this within 15 minutes when you awake up.
b) Add 1-2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice in regular/herbal tea. Drink this tea 2-3 times a day.
c) Sprinkle 2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice on the vegetables of fruit salad.
d) Mix 2 tablespoon of lemon juice in carrot juice, apple juice, and banana shakes etc. You can add lemon juice in any fruit juice.
It is recommended that, drink glass of lemon juice 3 times a day.
Bitter Gourd: Bitter Gourd has blood purifying properties. It gives many health benefit, such as it fights cancer, piles, reduces diabetes, weight loss, high cholesterol, skin diseases etc. It improves our immunity power. It also cures skin infections, Eczema and Psoriasis by purifying our blood. Bitter gourd juice can be consumed to cure blood diseases such as blood boils and itching, burning due to septicemia.
a) Consume steamed or boiled bitter gourd to obtain its various benefits, and bitter gourd in daily diet, vegetable, curry etc.
b) Drink 2 cup of bitter gourd juice every day, because it reinforces our immune system and improves the body’s combating power against many disease.
Indian Gooseberry/Amla: Indian gooseberry has blood cleansing and detoxifying naturally. It purifies blood, detoxifies and reinforce our immune system. It improves the performance of the liver and pancreas. The gooseberry fruit, leaves, seeds, bark and roots of this plant have healing qualities.
a) Soak 4-5 Indian gooseberries in water overnight. In the next day morning smash them properly in glass of water, strain the mixture and add 2 tablespoon of honey to this water. Drink this water on an empty stomach once or twice a day to remove toxins from the body.
b) Consume 2-3 tablespoon of Indian gooseberry paste with 3 tablespoon of jaggery. Repeat this 2 times a day.
c) Take 2 cups of Indian gooseberry juice and 1 teaspoon of fennel seed powder in it, mix well and consume this mixture twice a day after heavy meal
Basil (Tulsi): Basil/tulsi has great ability to purify our blood by removing harmful toxin from body. It is one of the greatest antibiotic and healers; it gives cooling effect to the body. It is also very beneficial in malaria, jaundice, cold and cough, acidity, hepatitis, fever, Eczema, ringworm, diabetes and fungal infections.
Regular consumption of basil/tulsi increases WBC and RBCs in the blood to fight against common disease. It also removes clotting of the blood.
a) Smash 10 fresh basil/tulsi leaves and add 1 teaspoon of honey to it. Consume this mixture daily in the morning on the empty stomach.
b) Add 1 tablespoon of fresh basil/tulsi paste or juice to glass of fruit juice.
c) Mix 1 tablespoon of fresh basil/tulsi paste or juice in glass of lemon juice, also add 1 tablespoon of honey in it. Drink this juice on empty stomach in the morning.
d) Add 1 teaspoon of basil/tulsi paste with 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger juice and honey. Mix them well and consume after every heavy meal (2-3 times a day).
Fresh Vegetables: Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, onion, broccoli and beetroot and red and green vegetables are beneficial for detoxification. Red and orange colored vegetables contain carotenoids and flavonoids that have antioxidant activity which can remove any harmful free radicals from the body.
Fresh Fruits: All fresh fruits like apple, pineapple, pear, kiwi, orange, sultanas, melon, black currants and raspberries can be useful for cleansing and detoxification. Eat the fruit on its own and not before, during or after the meals.
Barley: Barley is essential for better sports performance, maintaining good cholesterol levels, improving the immune system and detoxifying the blood. Barley has low glycemic index and is essential for maintaining the normal glucose balance in the body. It also contains soluble fiber and beta glucans, Presence of fiber and beta glucans help in improving the cholesterol levels and enhancing the immune system.
